Plans Set Aside For Proposed Homeless Shelter (Gainsville, FL)
by WCJB 20 TV News Monday October 21, 2002 at 09:51 PM

The plan to create a "safe space shelter" for Gainesville's homeless is off the table, at least for now.

Representatives from area agencies which serve the homeless
say there are simply too many possibilities to begin moving
homeless-related services out of downtown.

The chairman of the Coalition For The Homeless & Hungry
was scheduled to give a progress report to the city
commission on Monday.

Instead of a proposal, she says the coalition will set long-term
goals and try find enough cold weather beds for the city's
homeless among the different agencies.
